I hesitate to write about this subject because in doing so I would expect to be attacked almost immediately. It is because of my spiritual maturity that makes me more of a target and the fact that I continue to write, publish and post spiritual essays that has the ability to reach people and sway them towards ways of godliness. That is what the enemy wants to avoid. As long as you are not a threat to their dominion they could care less about you. I remember during the days of the civil rights movement when many of the nation’s top civil rights leaders were systematically assassinated because of their high visibility. The enemy knew where to find them. They became a threat to the old establishment way of being. In a similar way our mortal enemy wants things to stay in a state of spiritual chaos. Therefore if there are people who are trying to promote love, compassion and bringing people together, they are a threat to the empire of evil.
Some don’t fully realize that just as God is the ultimate power over the entire universe, there is a dark side that oppose Him. God represents everything that is good just as evil forces represent everything that is bad. The two sides are immortal enemies. However the major is war is waged in both realms, on earth as well as in heaven. But… we already know that God is triumphant. He has already defeated the enemy in the heavenly realm but they still have limited power in this earthly realm to the extent that God allows. When the final curtain is pulled, then comes Judgment Day.
Back some time ago I wrote a few essays about this subject when I learned about spiritual warfare from my bible study group. I still remember a few of the following scriptures that speak of this subject. 1 Peter 5:8 says: “Be alert and sober in mind. Your enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devoir.” James 4:7: “Submit yourself, then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” In Luke 10:19, Christ said: “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy, nothing will harm you.” Isaiah 54:17 – “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord. Ephesians 6:11-13 – “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes you will be able to stand your ground and after you have done everything to stand. Deuteronomy 28:7 “The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.” 2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” One additional of many more is: 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we live in the world we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Finally Christ said in Matthew 18:18-20 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
I wish I could memorize all these scriptures so I could use them as the enemy approaches. That is my personal ongoing challenge. I share this with you because if you really wish to be of service to the Lord… you also need to prepare yourself for warfare. The more of a threat you become to the enemy… the more you should expect to be attacked by spiritual warfare. It could be subtle as in to make you think that you are not worthy of God’s favor or, it could be straight up in your face warning you that they have power here upon earth. You just need to know that no weapons forged against you will prevail once you put on your full armor of God.
My fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, do you recall shortly after Jesus was baptized and retreated to the dessert for forty days? He was personally challenged by these very same evil spirits mentioned in the scriptures mentioned here. They knew He was the ultimate threat. Christ used scripture to rebuke them. If it is good enough for our Savior, then it has to be good enough for us, His followers. If you are not a follower this essay might not make any sense to you.
Spiritual warfare is a reality, but just how much attention you give it, relates to how much of a threat you are in service to God. Keep on the full armor and you have our Father’s full protection. Selah!
