There are many things in this life we must face that are unpleasant. Unfortunately when it rains, it rains on the righteous and the unrighteous. When we experience calamities such as earthquakes, floods, fierce storms and the like, the good must suffer along with the wicked. That is the nature of the natural world and there is no getting around it! Such things are not within our control. There can be physical suffering and even death involved in such happenings. The one constant we as believers know is that “absent of the body, present with the Lord.” For that we give God the praise and glory.
Although we can see the things that happen in the natural world, there are other elements that exists in the dark heavenly kingdom that causes many things to happen that we cannot see. Such negative things are not within our control but we need to be aware them and always remain vigilant. As a child of God you have a mighty protector that is more powerful than any other power in existence… so when you face temptations from the dark side of the spiritual kingdom… just know that you are not alone. God’s angels are encamped around you. Psalm 34:7
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:10-13
This essays is not really for those who are strong in faith or those that studies the Word on a regular basis. Those that live according to what the Spirit desires know they must always keep close to the Lord as Protector and Provider. But for those who are infants in the Lord, they need spiritual nourishments so that they may become matured in their faith. New believers need to be aware of this passage if the desire is to please God because there will be challenges to face from this dark source.
Firstly we (believers) are encouraged to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Nothing on earth or in the heavens is more powerful than our Heavenly Father and benefactor. So when you experience spiritual warfare of many kind you are to turn to His power from which you have protection. However as the writer Paul goes on to say in the scripture… there are certain things that you will face in this life that are not from this world, but instead from spiritual powers of wickedness in the dark heavenly places. Yes we know this as the power of Satan, the devil. Although we delight in knowing God… you also need to realize that we have a mortal enemy as well. Though we would like to lean on the rosier side of things, you should not be ignorant of the dark side. Ignoring things does not make them inexistent.
In the spiritual kingdom there are both dark powers and there is the power of God. If one does not study the scriptures they might not be aware of such things. At times it could be helpful to be somewhat naïve, but when you face certain things it is good what you are facing and how to protect yourself. Certain battles are not against flesh and blood but instead from the rulers of the darkness of this age. For such battles we need God’s full armor of protection. By the way, this spiritual battle that we face seems to happen to those who are attempting to serve the Lord. I suppose it may be a bit rhetorical because those that have no interest in serving God wouldn’t find themselves in spiritual warfare. Why would dark powers attack those that are already in their fold? It is usually the ones of weak faith who are still attempting to straddle the fence that are attacked. The enemy comes at them hard because of their weakness.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” 1 Peter 5:8-9
The analogy that Apostle Peter uses is one that many of us can relate to. We are literally and figuratively stalked by these dark spiritual forces as prey to devour. Such spiritual forces from the heavenly realm. This is not something that you see as a foe. They operate on an entirely different level. They attack from the spiritual realm like a bully or coward: they prey upon the weak in faith. In many case they go through the porthole of the mind because that is where the weak in faith are most vulnerable. This is why Paul admonished believers as such:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
Since most people tend to follow the urging of their mind it is important that the mind is given the proper boundaries and instructions. The way to renew the mind so it is obedient to the spirit is through reading and studying the Word of God. That way you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is rather than following your ordinary sin-nature. The sinful mind is actually hostile to God.
“The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:7-8
Although I have covered numerous scriptures here, it was necessary to show you how you may be attacked, where to get your protection; and how to close those open access doors through which you are attacked. Hopefully this will be of assistance to those who are new to the faith. May the Spirit bless you with His divine knowledge and power as you prepare for the battles ahead. I also encourage you to read the rest of Ephesians 6 so you know what the full armor of God consist of… Selah!
