Usually when you get a few years under your belt you see things differently. As King Solomon says, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” The only thing that changes is time itself but the sun continue to rise and set, the seasons remember when to change, the streams continue to flow into the sea and yet the sea has not overfilled. Generation and generations has come and gone and here we are in our time in the sun. What is it all about? “No one will remember former generation and even those to come will not be remembered by those who follow.” Again, what could this be all about?
When God created the universe He created time and set all things in their rightful places. He knew in the beginning when the ending would come but still He waits upon man and give us a chance to know Him. So many people are walking about while their souls are sleeping not knowing or caring about what is or what will be. With time there is still yet a chance for those who do not know God to arise and awaken. The only thing that matters in all of existence is that mankind awaken and acknowledges his Creator. If there is no desire to know God then life would have been meaningless to those who are asleep.
Why would we all be born in a godforsaken land only to die and return to the dust from which we came? It would be utterly meaningless as King Solomon said. But there are distinct reasons why we are born and to each is a purpose in the eyes of God. If you do not know that purpose or even worse, don’t even realize that there is a purpose, then how can you fulfill your Maker’s purpose?
“Seek the Lord while He may be found;
call on Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways
And the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on them,
And to our God, for He will freely pardon.”
I remember when I was young there were so many evangelists proclaiming the end times were at hand. Even during the days of Christ people were speaking of the end times and wanted to know when it would come. There have been several dynamic points in our history when mankind has been placed on notice about the end times. When the disciples of Christ ask of Him, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” Matthew 24:4-8
He continues later in that chapter to say: in verse 36: “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
Therefore Christ cautioned all to keep watch, because you do not know on what day or the hour the Lord will come. He said that the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him. So what does this mean to us today? Are we to just procrastinate putting off for now getting our affairs straight with the Lord thinking that we will have more time tomorrow? Are we to continue to eat, drink and be merry counting on more time that we are not certain will come? Absolutely not!
Though I am not one that proclaim the coming of the end days, the Lord said that the end of time will come when you do not expect Him to come, and no one knows the day or the hour, not even the angels in heaven, not the Son, but only the Father knows. The Lord also said: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 What I would say to anyone is if you do not hear the voice of your Shepherd then perhaps you will not know to follow Him, or to be ready when He returns. I would only suggest that you should get ready now because tomorrow may never come for those who are not ready. Let those who have ears, hear… and those whom have eyes to see, see and harken to the voice of the Shepherd. A time is at hand now! Selah!
