Source of Optimism

In spite of all the things that I have been a living witness to for over 70 years I still refuse to give up on people. My optimism is not solely based upon what people do, but more in the Source that created them. It was YHWH God that created man in His image to be like Him. That implies there is an unlimited capacity of love within mankind that has yet to be revealed.

Think about it, God created us to be like Him so He hand-placed many of His attributes within our souls. These traits are available for us to summon if desired. In spite of how we act, we literally have God’s likeness imbedded in our souls. There are no inhibitions to stop us from using them. My source of optimism is in absolutely knowing that God lives in the souls of mankind. Though we might it consider it hidden, It is in us.

I need not list all His attributes here because they should be obvious. But the one that is unmistakable is the attribute of love. Essentially God and love are synonymous. Love is God’s highest attribute. It is the substance from which all things were created in the heavens and upon the earth. In all of creation God gave mankind dominion over His creation to guardian over. We were never intended to own it or to hoard it for ourselves, keeping it away from others. All of God’s resources are for all of God’s people. For man to keep what does not belong to him away from God’s people brings eternal consequences. In short, if you are receiving your just rewards here on earth you will not receive them in the eternal Kingdom of Heaven.

With this stated how do we continue to believe in people who do not believe in God? They don’t believe He is the source of all things. How do we retain faith in people who are faithless? The answer is in placing your reliance upon the Source that gave them life, reason and meaning. In the beginning God made man in his own image to rule over the earth. The question would be, what is the actual image or likeness that we resemble?

Scripture tells us that the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 1:7 - Imagine, the Lord God formed us from the ground and then blew into us His essence and the dirt (ground) became a living being. That means without what God blew into these bodies we are essentially dirt and we will return to dirt once absence of life? What is the reason for our lives? What does it mean?

Whatever God blew into the nostrils is the key. It was His likeness but the flesh was only a temporary housing. So let us zoom in on what was blown into us that made us become a living being. Obviously something that is unformed… in the likeness of God, who is also unformed… was blown into us. That was His spirit! God blew His Spirit in us, which makes us like Him. This is what is in every living being regardless as to how they treat what was freely given to them. Part of that unique likeness included free will, which gave man the right to choose and decide upon their own fate. Therefore mankind’s choices are the deviations from the holiness that IS God: Man moved, God did not!

Again the source of my optimism is in knowing what is in mankind. The physical body is a Holy Temple because it literally houses the spirit that is from a “Holy” God. Most of us sort of glaze over this fact as we defile our bodies. If we are not aware of things that does not totally absolve us, but thankfully God knows that most are still infants drifting through immortality. As enlightenment comes into play then that childish defiance needs to subside. It is one thing to be defiant through ignorance and another to use willful disobedience. Thankfully we also have a very gracious Heavenly Father.

When you see the innocence of a child part of what you see is cute. It appears to be no bars stopping them from getting into anything they see. The parent must constantly restrain the child or else something will ultimately go wrong. That is how our Heavenly Father watches over us. Even though many of us act wildly and contrary to their own good, He doesn’t stop loving us. Parents cautiously watch over children and allow them to learn through their various experiences. As I see behaviors in the youth that were just like my younger days I sometime chuckle knowing how blinded they are, simply because of the lack of knowledge? If they only knew what was blown into their nostrils that gave them life and being then perhaps things would change. Even in spite of knowing the truth some still are defiant… that is a problem!

So let us not give up on each other. What is in me is in you and in each of us similarly. Although we might be at various stages of awareness, we each have a watchful guardian allowing us to act as a child while not realizing our ignorance. However one day our eyes will be opened wide and the truth will be revealed. Then you will no longer be treated as a cute little innocent child. God expect much more out of those whom He calls. Of those who are called He sanctified. A fawn knows the sound of the parents call and hasten back to cover. Likewise do the children of the Most High God.

“And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.” Romans 8:27-30

Though not everyone alike will understand this passage, the fawn knows the sound of its mothers call and will hasten back to cover. No… the source of my optimism is not in man… but in He who made man… Don’t be too quick to give up on each other. Selah!
