I can’t imagine that God has a mind as people have a mind. But I can imagine that God is mind or that God is pure consciousness. Human beings need a mind to assist in processing life but even beyond our mortal lives we probably wouldn’t require the use of a mind either. God is Spirit that has no physicality that we could identify. Therefore for us to even assume that we could peep into the mind of God would be futile.
Scripture says: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9
God’s ways and means are so much higher than anything that we could possibly imagine so why would we even consider parody with God as a viable option? We imagine things but God’s thoughts are commands. When God think of something it happens as He thought. In the beginning (creation) God commanded, let there be…and instantaneously all things came into being. There was no building process but creation became upon His command. We would imagine that an entire universe coming into existence could only develop over billions of years but God created time so time was not required, not in the manner that we would assume.
A lot of people have their opinions about how the world was formed. Some think that it was the perfect equation of science that caused a big bang to happen so precisely that out of the explosion life was mysteriously caused to happen. Others believe that an organism traveled through space and so happen to land on the planet earth that had all the elements conducive to breed life. That still does not account for the universe being here in the first place with stuff traveling through space and time, which God also created.
Until you accept the fact that God ways are not like our ways and even His thoughts are more like commands capable of creating whatever He desires to happen, we can’t possible imagine the totality of God. We should instead focus upon how we fit into God’s equation rather than trying to peek behind His sacred curtains. Mere words cannot describe the totality of God but here are a few that would point us in His direction.
God is omnipotent, which means almighty or infinite in power. There are no limits to God’s power. This implies that anything that God desires becomes, as He desired it to become.
God is omnipresent, which means being present everywhere at the same time. God needs no physical body because a physical structure would limit God to be at a certain place at a certain time. God is not restricted by anything, yet God created all things that exists.
God is Spirit, which means pure consciousness, incorporeal being as opposed to physical matter. Part of what we are is likewise spirit now existing in human form. That is our likeness with God yet we are part of what God made and God is the entirety of all things made. Even when you look up the term, God, it is defined as the one Supreme Being and ruler of the universe. So you might imagine that God is the ALL and we are just a tiny spec amongst the all. That would be more than our small minds could imagine, yet we still try to understand the mind of God.
God has the ability to divide or create different parts or functions within Himself. Christians know this as the Trinity, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, but all are God. Therefore God could be in the heavens, (everywhere at the same time) while the Son was sent to earth, and then sent the Holy Spirit to be our Helper once He (the Son) returned to the Father.
Christians believe this because of what Christ said to His remaining disciples after His resurrection: this is the great commission.
Matthew 28: 18-20 - Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We can’t know the mind of God but in order to have even a breath of chance to know God at all we must believe (by faith) that He exists and He is what He said He is. I AM THAT I AM. Forget trying to understand the mind of God and try instead to understand the word of God:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” – John 1:1-4
